DANE DOBBIE SENDS SEALS TO SEMIFINALS IN OT

Dobbie, Staats net hat tricks in EPIC quarterfinal win or go home game.

Dane Dobbie’s goal 2:49 into sudden death propelled the San Diego Seals to a 9-8 victory over the Panther City Lacrosse Club in a National Lacrosse League quarterfinal playoff matchup Saturday night at Pechanga Arena.

Austin Staats, who led the Seals with four goals on the night, scored the game-tying goal early in the fourth to help send the game into overtime.

A defensive battle throughout, the game was tied 2-2 after one quarter. Dobbie put the Seals on the board first with a goal 2:26 in and with 5:35 left in the first, Cam Holding made a beautiful defensive play, intercepting a Panther City pass at the midfield logo & scoring on a breakaway goal.

Twenty-eight seconds into the second period, Tre Leclaire put the Seals up 3-2 and after a Panther City goal tied the game, Staats put the Seals back up 4-3, breaking away from a Panther City double team behind the net and scoring on a diving wraparound goal.

Panther City scored the game’s next two goals to take their first lead of the night before Staats knotted the game at 5-5 with a goal at the 5:31 mark. After Panther city scored to go up 6-5, Dobbie scored with 2.55 left in the half to send the teams to the locker room tied 6-6 at the break.

Defense dominated the third quarter with each team scoring just once, the Seals goal scored by Staats, his third of the night.

Just 2:39 into the fourth, Panther City scored to take an 8-7 lead but Staats scored his fourth of the night with 10:25 left in regulation to tie the game again, 8-8, ultimately sending it to overtime.

Dobbie’s game winning goal came 2:49 into sudden death.
