Cancer Awareness Night Returns April 15

Stick Up For A Cure presented by Kings & Convicts benefits Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego; Players’ Game Jersey Auction Starts Today

SAN DIEGO – A week ago, the 1st place San Diego Seals brought awareness to Down syndrome and raised more than $31,000 for two local charities. Now, the Seals turn their attention to cancer with the return of Stick Up For A Cure, the team’s cancer awareness initiative presented by Kings & Convicts Brewing Co. The Seals’ regular-season finale on April 15 will feature theme jerseys, pediatric cancer patient profiles, and a commitment to the cause, with proceeds benefiting Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego and its Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.

“The regular-season home finale will be a memorable one as we highlight some amazing and inspirational children, all while raising money for one of San Diego’s most respected community partners,” said Seals President Steve Govett.

Stick Up For A Cure debuted in 2019, with special meaning for players and fans alike. Players proudly wore the names of those affected by cancer on their backs, and presented their game jerseys to those fans and their loved ones immediately following the game.

“The inaugural Stick Up For A Cure night was one of the most cherished moments of my lacrosse career,” said Seals forward Casey Jackson. “I played for something bigger than myself, bigger than this team. April 15 will be another opportunity to do so.”

The Stick Up For A Cure jerseys of Jackson and his Seals teammates are now in auction on the DASH AUCTION app through Thursday at noon PDT. Each auction winner will choose the name of who their player is Sticking Up For, which will appear on the player’s lower-back with a ribbon symbolizing the type of cancer that has affected them. Kings & Convicts will generously match the first $2,500 in auction donations.

“Childhood cancer awareness and research is a cause very near to the Kings & Convicts family,” said Brendan Watters, CEO and co-founder of Kings & Convicts Brewing Co. “We’re happy to partner with this generous community to bring awareness and much-needed support to Rady Children’s Hospital San Diego. Whenever there’s an opportunity to help make a difference, we will.”

“Rady Children’s is thrilled to partner with the San Diego Seals this season and honored to be the beneficiary of their Stick Up For A Cure game,” said Alexandra Loker, Vice President of Philanthropy at Rady Children’s Hospital Foundation. “All funds raised from this game will benefit our Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, the largest pediatric hematology/oncology program serving children and adolescents in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties.”
