SEALS SIGN NLL CHAMPION AND FORMER MVP DANE DOBBIE

The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has signed one of the most sought-after free agents in former NLL MVP Dane Dobbie, pending league approval.

“Dane is one of the best offensive players of his generation,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “And to put it simply, he’s a winner. He’s a true competitor to his core and we’ve been able to see that throughout his hall of fame-caliber career so far. Dane has experience and chemistry playing with [Assistant Coach Josh Sanderson] – they were part of the ’09 championship team together, and I know that’s a reason why Dane ultimately chose us. Dane and Josh are both excited to be reunited on the same bench again. I’m thrilled Dane’s decided to continue his career in San Diego and couldn’t be prouder to welcome him to the Seals family.”

Dobbie’s one of the most talented players in the game. He was named the NLL’s Most Valuable player after leading the league in total points (115) during the 2018-19 season. The lefty is a two-time NLL Champion, a three-time Western Division Champion and a two-time NLL All-Pro. He was the 2019 NLL Finals MVP after leading the Roughnecks to his second NLL Championship. He previously led the league in points (115, 2018-19) and goals (51, 2013-14), and registered four seasons with 40+ goals.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to join the Seals organization,” said Dobbie. “I cannot wait to get down to San Diego and get to work.”

Dobbie spent his entire 13-year NLL career in Calgary, recording a franchise-record 889 points and 435 goals in 182 games played. He’s notched a career-high 11 points on three occasions and netted 7+ goals in three separate games (including one against San Diego). He was selected fourth overall by the Roughnecks in the 2007 NLL Entry Draft.
