Front Office Feature: Rebecca Kingsbury

You could argue that it’s infrequent in life to have the chance to merge two of your favorite things, and even rarer to make them a career. For Rebecca Kingsbury, she struck gold in finding a role with the San Diego Seals.

The Washington, D.C.-born, Colorado-raised lacrosse junkie is a self-proclaimed math nerd. “It’s in my blood,” said Kingsbury. After all, her dad majored in math at Stanford University; her uncle was a college math professor; and her sister teaches the subject to high schoolers. Now Rebecca’s putting her expertise in play as the team’s Business Intelligence & Sports Analytics Manager.

“My primary role is to determine what types of people we can reach through sports, and bring them all together on gameday.”

Kingsbury comes to the Seals from Competitor Group, an event and media company best known for its Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. There she oversaw consumer insights and market research, and was responsible for data visualization for the sales, marketing and executive teams.

A proud UCSD alum, Kingsbury was the valedictorian of the world-renowned SDSU Sports MBA program in 2011. She’s coached lacrosse at all levels, and was named the 2014 San Diego CIF Female Coach of the Year (across all sports).

There’s a finite number of female executives in the industry, and even less who work in sports analytics. Kingsbury has the unique skillset to impact the organization on both business and team operations.

“It was really exciting for me to find an opportunity in the city that I love, in the sport that I love, in an area of business that I’m passionate about,” she professed.
