GAME PREVIEW

In one of the biggest matchups of the season, the Seals face the Saskatchewan Rush on Friday night at Pechanga Arena San Diego to secure the team’s spot in first place and move closer to clinching a spot in the National Lacrosse League playoffs.

“We had a great up-tempo practice,” said defensive coordinator Bill Greer. “It seems like every game is a big game as the season goes on. No matter who we’re playing, we have to be dialed in.”

The Seals traveled to Saskatchewan in January to face the Rush in the first-ever game between the two clubs. The Seals fell short on the road but hope to even the score tonight in front of the home crowd.

“We have to focus on us,” continued Greer. “The last time we played them we worried a lot about them, their offense and the fact that they’re the defending champs. This week we’re focusing more on ourselves and what we need to do. We’ve been playing well lately, so we just have to bring that same mindset.”

San Diego’s three-game win streak has been highlighted by the defensive unit which currently leads the league with the fewest goals allowed (123). The team hopes to extend the streak and clinch a spot in the NLL playoffs. If San Diego beats Saskatchewan on Friday night and Vancouver loses both of their games this weekend, the Seals will officially clinch their spot in the NLL playoffs.

“There are a couple things we need to do to be successful this weekend and work our way to the playoffs,” said Greer. “We need to start on time. [The Rush] do a good job in the first quarter and get up on teams, so we need to do a good job right away, come out and get the fans into it. Defensively, we’re starting to get our systems down with our new guys and I think we’re going to matchup well with their offense. Offensively, every game it seems like a new guy is stepping up. Frankie [Scigliano] has been the back bone this year, with a big game out of him we’ll be good.”

You can see your first-place San Diego Seals in action on Friday at 7:00 PM PST at Pechanga Arena San Diego. SouthNorte Brewing Co. will offer $3 cans of their Sea Señor Mexican Lager to fans until the end of halftime. Reserve your seats now at SealsLax.com.
