The Seals are heading to the Mile High City this week to take on West Conference opponent Colorado Mammoth on Friday, April 14 at 6 pm PT.
This will be the second of three times the teams will face off against one another this season. The last time the Seals and the Mammoth saw each other was in January, with San Diego coming away with a 13-9 win and with forward Dane Dobbie reaching 1,000 career points. The Seals are looking for equal success in this Friday’s match.
The Seals are coming off of an exciting weekend in Las Vegas, where they defeated the Desert Dogs 14-10. It was a big weekend for forward Curtis Dickson, who joined Dobbie and became just the eighth player in NLL history to net 500 career goals. Dickson, along with Wes Berg and Austin Staats, all came away with hat tricks. From a defensive standpoint, Saturday was goaltender Frank Scigliano’s 50th win, making him the 16th goalie in NLL history to reach this milestone. With the win on April 8, the Seals clinched a home playoff game on May 5th for the quarterfinal match.
The Mammoth are also coming away from last weekend with a win, having defeated the Vancouver Warriors 12-5. Despite the team’s victory, Colorado is still fighting for a playoff berth in the NLL’s March to May. With a win against the Seals, along with both Saskatchewan and Philadelphia losing to their opponents on Saturday, the Mammoth could be joining the Seals in the postseason, making this Friday’s match all the more electrifying.
The Seals, on the other hand, need to win against the Mammoth in order to clinch first place in the West Conference. This mission can still be accomplished so long as Calgary falls to Las Vegas on Friday, regardless of the outcome of the Seals vs. Mammoth game. This game also holds personal significance for Captain and defenseman/transition player Brodie Merrill. Friday will be his 275th NLL game, placing him at third overall with most NLL games played.
Be sure to join us at Ballast Point in Miramar on Friday at 5:30 pm PT to cheer on the Seals as they fight their way to secure first place. For those unable to make the watch party, Friday’s game will also be streamed live on ESPN+ and TSN.
The Seals return to Pechanga Arena on Saturday, April 22 for the annual cancer awareness night, Stick Up For a Cure. The night will be presented by Kings & Convicts Brewing Co. and will benefit Rady Children’s Hospital, our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital right here in San Diego. Stick Up For A Cure debuted in 2019, with special meaning for players and fans alike. Players proudly wear the names of those affected by cancer on their backs, and present their game jerseys to those fans and their loved ones immediately following the game.
Special game-worn jerseys will be available for auction beginning today and lasting until April 14 at 12 pm PT. The purple and gold jerseys will feature ribbons on the sleeve, as well as the message “Stick Up For a Cure” etched in black on the sides. Additionally, lavender purple ribbons will decorate the shoulders of the jersey. Along with the player’s name and number, the back will feature a special “I’m Sticking Up For” customizable name plate, with the first and last name of an individual affected by cancer to later be selected by the winner of the auction.
