GAME PREVIEW: SAN DIEGO SEALS VS. LAS VEGAS DESERT DOGS

The San Diego Seals are headed to Las Vegas to take on the Desert Dogs on Saturday, April 8 at Michelob ULTRA Arena. Face off is scheduled for 7:30 pm PT.

The Seals are coming off of an electric weekend, with a commanding 14-8 win vs. the Calgary Roughnecks and clinching a playoff spot. Forwards Dane Dobbie and Curtis Dickson each got hat tricks, with Wes Berg, Austin Staats, Brodie Merrill, Eli Gobrecht, and Kevin Crowley all putting points up as well. Friday’s game not only showcased the Seals’ prowess offensively, but defensively as well. Goalkeeper Frank Scigliano remained consistent and laser focused throughout the entirety of the game, making 32 saves on 40 shots.

Saturday’s upcoming game holds much potential for Dickson to reach an impressive milestone, as he is three goals away from being the eighth player in NLL history to reach 500 career goals.

Additionally, Scigliano is one win away from reaching 50 in his career. This would make him the 16th goaltender to do so in NLL history.

This will be the second of three times that the Seals and the Desert Dogs will face one another this season. The last time they saw one another was in San Diego, when they battled it out at Snapdragon during the historic Stadium Showdown. The Seals ultimately came away victorious, but the Desert Dogs kept it close throughout the entirety of the game, making for an exciting matchup that kept fans on their toes.

Similar to their battle against San Diego, the Desert Dogs went back-and-forth with Colorado in last Friday’s game against the Mammoth at Ball Arena. Despite ultimately falling 11-9, the first half of the Desert Dogs vs. Mammoth matchup looked good for the Silver and Black, who went on an early five-goal run in the first quarter.

Although a playoff spot has been solidified for the Seals after Friday, there are several question marks regarding seeding and game locations that will be settled after the upcoming weekend. If the Seals win against the Desert Dogs and if Calgary loses to Panther City on Saturday, San Diego will clinch the West Conference #1 seed. Additionally, the Seals will secure a quarterfinal playoff game at home if they win against the Desert Dogs, or if the Colorado Mammoth falls to the Vancouver Warriors on Saturday.
