Game Preview: Seals vs Panther City

The San Diego Seals head to Texas to face the Panther City Lacrosse Club on Saturday night at Dickies Arena at 5:30 pm PT. This will be the team’s first and only trip to Fort Worth this season.

“It’s never easy going into someone else’s barn,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “We know the importance of the game, it’s a series game and we need to be prepared, especially after the bye week.”

The Seals are currently riding a five-game win streak after defeating Calgary at home last time out. With a 5-1 record, the team sits in first place in the West Division heading into the weekend. A win vs. Panther City on Saturday night would clinch the season series with the divisional opponent.

“We need a full team effort for a full 60 minutes,” continued Merrill. “Our offense needs to come out hot, our defense needs to play our system and our goaltending needs to continue to be the backbone of our team. If all the pieces are clicking, it’ll be a good show Saturday night.”

Forwards Wesley Berg, Dane Dobbie and Jeremy Noble are all tied at the top of the Seals leaderboard with 31 points. Forward Austin Staats has netted 11 goals in 4 games in his return since missing the first two games of the season due to injury. Goaltender Frank Scigliano leads all NLL goals with an 8.32 goals against average.

In the first meeting between the Seals and Panther City, San Diego was able to hold on for a 15-12 win at home. Forward Dane Dobbie led the Seals offense with five goals, while goaltender Chris Origlieri became the youngest goalie in NLL goalie to earn a win at 19 years old in his first career start. The Seals hope to keep the hot streak alive and clinch the season series on Saturday night.

Fans in San Diego are encouraged to join the Seals for a watch party at Draft at Belmont Park in Mission Beach. Anyone in Seals gear will receive 15% off their bill. San Diegans will be able to watch the game locally on The CW San Diego. Saturday’s matchup will also be streaming on ESPN+.
