Game Preview: Vancouver Warriors vs San Diego Seals

The San Diego Seals welcome the Vancouver Warriors to Pechanga Arena San Diego on Saturday night for the first matchup of 2023 in America’s Finest City. Faceoff is set for 7:00 pm PT.

The Seals return home after a record-setting game against the Roughnecks in Calgary. Forward Dane Dobbie scored six goals in the first half, leading the team to a franchise-record 13 goals scored in the first 30 minutes of play. The Seals won their third straight game to kick off the 2022-23 season and currently boast the best start in team history. Through the first five weeks of the NLL season, San Diego is the only undefeated team in the conference and sit atop the standings in the West.

“We have a lot to take away from last week’s game,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “While we’re happy with our record, we still haven’t put together a full 60 minutes and that’s exactly what you need to do in this league. We need to stick to our systems, stay focused and hungry and execute our game plan. If we can do that, I like our chances.”

After his third consecutive 4+ goal game to start the season, newcomer Curtis Dickson currently leads the league (and team) in goals (13) and ranks second in points (23). Forward Wesley Berg’s 15 assists are good for second in the NLL. Seals star forward Austin Staats notched five points in his season debut.

Last season, the Warriors took two-of-three games in the season series. All-time, the Seals hold a 5-3 record against the division foe. Whenever San Diego and Vancouver meet, it is sure to be a feisty affair on the floor.

“Vancouver always plays us tough,” continued Merrill. “They’re a division rival and we always end up with close games against them. They spoiled our home opener last year. We know what to expect coming into the game on Saturday and we’re looking forward to a fun one in front of the fans at home.”
