Player Profile: Frank Scigliano

The San Diego Seals made sure to get one very important piece – some say the most important piece – of their team when they selected veteran goaltender Frank Scigliano in the Expansion Draft in July.

“Goaltending and defense wins championships,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “We made sure to get a solid ‘tender in the draft and we’re excited to give him a shot in San Diego.”

Growing up in British Columbia, Scigliano was introduced at an early age to box lacrosse. It didn’t take long for him to realize that he could make a future out of making saves.

At six-foot three-inches, Scigliano stands tall between the pipes. All 285 pounds move with agility and quickness as he makes each save. A little boost of confidence runs through his veins every time he stifles an opponent’s shot.

“I’m ready to compete,” said Scigliano. “I am so grateful that Coach Merrill gave me this opportunity and I can’t wait to get out there.”

Known for his consistency and blocking style, Scigliano has seven years of experience between the pipes with the Calgary Roughnecks, boasting a .765% career save percentage.

A self-declared “big kid”, Scigliano looks forward to making a big mark on San Diego and the fans throughout the community. The west coast native is more than excited for the opportunity for family and friends to see him suit up in the purple and gold on Opening Night in San Diego. Walking away with a win wouldn’t be too bad either!
