San Diego Defeats Las Vegas and Clench Top Spot in the West

San Diego defeated Las Vegas tonight 14-4 at home, securing the #1 spot in the West as the league approaches the playoffs with just one week left in the regular season.

Saturday’s matchup vs. the Desert Dogs started off quickly with a goal from Curtis Dickson in under a minute of play, followed by goals from more of the all star San Diego offense with Dobbie, O’Keefe, and Berg all scoring in the first half. The Seals continued to go on a 9 goal run in between the 2nd and 3rd quarters to secure a strong 12-3 lead going into the 4th. Things got physical as mayhem erupted through the second half with Jackson Suboch of Las Vegas and Graydon Bradley of San Diego both getting ejected.

Saturday’s game vs. the Desert Dogs was a big one for Seals’ forward Wes Berg, who became the first Seals player in franchise history to reach 100 points in a season. The achievement also happened to land on Berg’s 100th career match. Dickson, Berg, and Dobbie all now have 90+ points in the season, making the 2022-23 San Diego Seals the 3rd team in NLL history to have 3 players with 90+ points in a season. Needless to say, the Seals offense is living up to the hype.

Saturday’s game was the Seals’ annual cancer awareness night, Stick Up for a Cure, presented by Kings & Convicts and benefiting the Peckham Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Rady Children’s Hospital here in San Diego. The players were repping special customized jerseys featuring the names of individuals who have been impacted by cancer. The jerseys were presented to the aforementioned individuals and their families immediately following the game.

The Seals return to Pechanga Arena next week on April 29th to rematch against the Colorado Mammoth after falling to them 15-14 last week in a physical battle on the road. Fans can get their tickets right HERE for the classic rivalry rematch. April 29th is also Fan Appreciation Night to honor the end of the regular season, with the first 3,000 fans through the door receiving a mystery Seals gift!

The NLL will be utilizing an eight-team playoff format, showcasing the top four teams from the East Conference and the top three from the West. A wild card will make up the eighth spot, being filled by the team with the best record between the fifth-place team in the East Conference and the fourth-place team in the West. Whoever is declared the 2022-23 wild card will be the #4 seed in the West Conference side of the bracket, who will face off against the #1 Seals in the first round.

The first round of the playoffs across the league will take place the weekend of May 5-7th. The San Diego Seals will play host for the first round on May 5th at 7pm PT. It will be a single elimination match. Reserve your seats for this epic first-round Quarterfinal matchup HERE. The ensuing Conference Finals and NLL Finals will both be best-of-three.
