SEALS ACQUIRE FORWARD WESLEY BERG

(SAN DIEGO, CA – July 12, 2019) – The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has acquired right-handed forward Wesley Berg from the Calgary Roughnecks, pending league approval.

“We are very excited to have acquired one of the top offensive players in the league,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “He is in the prime of his career and looking forward to a new beginning. We couldn’t be happier to welcome him to the team and to the city of San Diego. I believe he is someone that Seals fans are going to be really excited for.”

Berg, 26, has recorded 99 goals, 133 assists and 232 points in 54 career games with the Calgary Roughnecks. He finished the 2018 season with 86 points, good for second on the Roughnecks and ninth in the NLL. The righty was selected fourth overall in the 2015 NLL Entry Draft and was named to the All-Rookie team. Berg did not play during the 2018-19 season.

The 6-2, 205-pound righty played college lacrosse at the University of Denver. Berg finished his college career as the Pioneers’ career leader in points (255) and goals (188). He helped lead his team to three straight trips to NCAA Final Four, finishing with 39 career NCAA Tournament goals, second most in NCAA history. Berg and the Pioneers won the NCAA National Championship in 2015 where he was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.

The San Diego Seals sent a 2019 first-round pick, a 2021 second-round pick to the Calgary Roughnecks and left-handed forward Turner Evans to the Rochester Knighthawks as part of a three-team trade.

“We’d also like to say thank you to Turner Evans for his hard work and dedication during our inaugural season,” continued Merrill. “He is a great player and an even better person. He was a key contributor for us last year and we wish him the best of luck in Rochester.”

The San Diego Seals return for their second season in December at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Place your season ticket membership deposit today at SealsLax.com.
