SEALS COME UP SHORT IN HOME OPENER

(SAN DIEGO – Dec. 14, 2019) – The San Diego Seals fell to the Toronto Rock by a final score of 13-6 on Saturday night at Pechanga Arena. San Diego peppered Toronto’s goaltender with 58 shots on goal, including 16 in the first quarter.

“It wasn’t good enough,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “We outshot them, and we out loose-balled them. I thought we got a lot of quality chances in the first quarter that if we would’ve buried would have been a bit of a different game. That being said it wasn’t good enough to get our first win at home.”

Seals forward Wesley Berg netted four goals in the home opener. The righty has lead San Diego’s offense through the first two games of the season and leads the team with 11 points.

“He’s been the best player for us in both games so far,” continued Merrill. “He plays with a lot of heart and never quit for the entire 60 minutes. He had four out of our six goals tonight and did a lot of other things well. But for everyone else to not produce, that puts a lot more pressure on him, our defense and goaltending. Even though he played well, I think he would say that when you have success offensively, it’s when all five guys are clicking.”

Rookie goaltender Nick Damude stopped 24 shots in his NLL debut. The Seals held the Rock to one power-play goal and won 15-of-23 face-offs.

The San Diego Seals host the Calgary Roughnecks on Friday, December 27 at Pechanga Arena at 7:00 PM PST. Reserve your seats today at SealsLax.com.
