The San Diego Seals narrowly fell to the Buffalo Bandits on Saturday night with a heartbreaking 6-7 overtime loss.
The entire game was a low scoring, physical, defensive battle with both goalies playing a remarkable game. Buffalo goalie Matt Vinc ended with 49 saves from 55 shots on goal, while San Diego goalie Frank Scigliano finished with 37 saves from 44 shots on goal from the Bandits.
The first half saw Dickson get things started for the Seals, followed by Staats who notched his 100th career goal to get the Seals into a 2-1 lead. Before the half, Jacob Dunbar scored his first career goal to make it a 3-1 lead going into halftime.
The 3rd quarter saw more offensive action from both sides of the box, with a 6-5 Seals lead going into the 4th. Josh Byrne scored the first 3 goals for Buffalo for a hat trick, followed by goals from Smith and McCulley.
The 4th quarter saw just one score from Cloutier for Buffalo, which sent the game into sudden victory overtime at 6-6. The match ended abruptly with a goal from Priolo to seal the deal for Buffalo.
A major highlight from the night was the San Diego Seals custom Godzilla jerseys, which honored the theme night dedicated to the King of the Monsters. The popular jerseys were auctioned off to drive funds for 4ocean, creating over $20,000 in proceeds. The night concluded with a postgame screening of Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla on the jumbotron for the Seals and Bandit fans in attendance.
The Seals return home on Friday, March 31 to take on the Calgary Roughnecks for Latin Heritage Night at 7 pm PT. This theme night falls on César Chávez Day, a holiday celebrating the life and tireless efforts of César E. Chávez in his fight against inequities and extremely poor working conditions.
This night will highlight the vibrant Latino(a) community here in San Diego, and will feature an array of exciting activities and entertainment all night long. Fans can enjoy pregame Lucha Libre matches starting at 5pm hosted by Level Up Wrestling, lowrider displays from Aztlan Car Club, as well as performances from Mariachi Mi Torres and Wa-Kushma Folk Production.
