SEALS SIGN FIVE DRAFTEES

The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has agreed to terms with five of the 2021 NLL Entry Draft selections, including a pair of first rounders. The Seals have signed defenseman Patrick Shoemay, forward Jacob Dunbar, goalie Chris Origlieri, forward Garret Winter and defenseman Reed Rezanka.

“We’re thrilled to continue to develop young, athletic players,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “We’re happy with who we were able to select in the draft and are looking forward to seeing them play. We’re going to have a competitive training camp and hope to see some of these young kids go out there and shine.”

Shoemay was the ninth overall selection in the draft after the Seals traded up to secure the pick. The 6’4, 210-pound defenseman played college lacrosse at the Rochester Institute of Technology where he scooped up 70 ground balls and caused 36 turnovers in 55 games played. The Surrey, British Columbia native played club lacrosse in the British Columbia Lacrosse Association where he was named the 2018 Defender of the Year.

Dunbar was selected 13th overall on draft night. The righty played club lacrosse for Port Coquitlam (BCLA), notching 57 goals and 99 points in 27 appearances. Dunbar represented Team Canada West in the World Junior Lacrosse Championship taking home a silver medal.

Origlieri, a second-round pick, stood out as the starting goaltender for the Orangeville Northmen (OLA), playing under Seals offensive coordinator Josh Sanderson, hoisting a 9-4 record with a .803 save percentage. Winter (fourth round) registered 41 goals and 88 points in 36 games for the Port Coquitlam Saints (BCLA) playing with fellow draftee Jacob Dunbar. San Diego native Reed Rezanka was a Seals fifth-round pick. The defenseman was a standout with the San Diego Royals (NCBS), Endicott College and Cathedral Catholic (HS).
