Seals Sign Four Free Agents, Including Active-Duty Serviceman

(SAN DIEGO – August 22, 2018) –The San Diego Seals announced today that the team has signed United States Air Force Academy graduate and active-duty serviceman Tommy McKee to a one-year contract. The Seals also signed Dominique Alexander to a one-year agreement, and Cole Shafer and Vinny Ricci to two-year agreements.

“We are very excited about the team we’ve been building,” said Seals general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “There is still work to be done and the proof will be in the pudding.”

McKee, 26, played college lacrosse at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and currently serves in the United States Air Force. McKee compiled a 24-game point streak and 21-game goal streak during his sophomore and junior years with the Falcons. The 5-9, 180-pound forward played one game in the NLL in 2017, registering three points.

Shafer, 24, was drafted in the second round of the 2017 NLL Entry Draft out of Drexel University. Shafer led the Dragons as a senior with 35 goals and 43 points in 14 games. The 5-8, 175-pound forward says he models his game after Seals assistant coach Josh Sanderson.

Alexander, 27, finished his college career at Ohio State University as a team co-captain and ranks seventh in program history with 48 assists and 10th in points with 95. The defenseman led the Buckeyes to the 2013 ECAC Championship and a NCAA Quarterfinals appearance, and was named the team’s Most Outstanding Freshman in 2010.

Ricci, 26, was a standout for Limestone College, posting a career-high 47 goals and 63 points as a senior. Ricci spent the last two summers playing for the Coquitlam Adanacs in the Western Lacrosse Association (WLA).

With four additional signings, the Seals have now inked 20 players since free agency began on August 1.
