SEALS WIN 13-4 ON THE ROAD

The San Diego Seals spoiled the Colorado Mammoth’s home opener on Saturday night winning the West Division matchup by a final score of 13-4.

The Seals offense came to life after rookie forward Tre Leclaire buried his first of three goals early in the first quarter. A full team effort, San Diego had seven different goals scorers featuring two highlight-reel goals from forward Dane Dobbie.

“We knew we needed to have a full 60 minute effort,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “We let the game last week slip away and the boys responded tonight. They were prepared, they outworked a good Colorado team and executed our game plan extremely well.”

Goaltender Frank Scigliano was lights out in the contest only allowing four goals and stopping 27 shots on the night. The Seals netted two short-handed goals and added a man-up goal in the win. San Diego chased Colorado’s goaltender Dillon Ward for the fifth time in the team’s short history.

“Frankie weathered the storm in the first quarter,” continued Merrill. “They were aggressive, he made some big stops and really gave our offense the confidence to play our game. Frankie’s the backbone of this team and it’s nice to see him get a big win on the road.”

The Seals will head to Calgary for another big West Division matchup on Friday night. San Diego and Calgary will both enter the game with a 1-1 record. Friday night’s game will be the return of Dane Dobbie to the Saddledome after the former MVP signed in San Diego during the 2021 off-season after spending 13 years with the Roughnecks.

“We need to build off our momentum,” continued Merrill. “We want to be consistent moving forward and continue to play our game. We’ll enjoy this win and get back to work. We know how good they are, and we’ll be ready for another big game.”
