SAN DIEGO WINS SEASON OPENER, DICKSON NETS FIVE GOALS IN SEALS DEBUT

The San Diego Seals opened the season with a 15-14 win over the New York Riptide on Saturday night at Nassau Coliseum.

The opening contest was nothing short of exciting. After a back and forth first, the Seals came out strong in the second quarter netting five goals to close out the half. San Diego’s dominance continued in the second half sparking a five-goal run to extend the lead to six. A wild final frame came down the last seconds, but San Diego was able to hold on for the win.

“It was nice to come out with a win there to start the season,” said General Manager and Head Coach Patrick Merrill. “There was a lot of great efforts by a lot of guys on both ends of the floor. We obviously have some cleaning up to do to prepare for next week, but we’re happy to be going home with a W.”

Newcomer Curtis Dickson led the Seals offense with five goals and eight points on the night. Forward Casey Jackson netted three in the game, while righties Wesley Berg and Kevin Crowley each added a pair. Goaltender Frank Scigliano stopped 38 shots in the win.

“It’s safe to say we’re glad to have Curtis in our side,” continued Merrill. “He was a big part of us pulling away in the second half and building our lead. He did what he’s done his whole career and we’re glad he was able to have a good night tonight.”

The Seals will return home with a win to host the Saskatchewan Rush for Opening Day at Pechanga Arena on Friday, December 9. Reserve your seats today at SealsLax.com For breaking news and updates follow the Seals at @SealsLax.
