Shooter

Shooter (noun) – a member of a team in games whose role is to attempt to score goals. An offensive weapon, the go-to guy and an ultimate game changer. A shooter is someone you always want to be on your side, and we have ours in Josh Sanderson.

Known by his teammates and peers as “Shooter”, Josh Sanderson got his nickname at a very young age.

“I got it from my dad a long time ago,” said Sanderson. “There’s a couple different stories to it but he asked if I wanted to be a goalie or a big shooter. I started in net but didn’t last very long in there. I got lit up pretty good. I lost 18 or 19 in one game and that was my last game between the pipes. I just loved playing the game, so I came out and became a shooter.”

He’s been scoring ever since. He ranks second in National Lacrosse League history in assists (908), assists per game (3.39), and games played (268).  Sanderson set – and repeatedly broke – the League’s single-season assists record. His 83 helpers in 2015 are tied for the second most in a year in NLL history.

Shooter joins the Seals as the offensive coordinator and the director of player personnel. In his first professional coaching gig, he hopes to impact young players in San Diego. Head coach and general manager, Patrick Merrill, describes him as “the ultimate competitor, a winner, and one of the smartest lacrosse minds in the game today.”

The Seals are lucky to have Shooter on board and can’t wait to see the impact he will have on the inaugural team. “It’s my job to make sure these guys are scoring 13 or 14 goals a game,” said Sanderson. “The boys love scoring, the fans love scoring, everyone loves scoring. Let’s give the fans something to cheer about.”
