Weekend Preview

The San Diego Seals enter their first back-to-back weekend of the 2018-19 season as the team takes on the Calgary Roughnecks at home on Friday night, and the Vancouver Warriors at Rogers Arena on Saturday night.

“These are two divisional match-ups,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “It’s safe to say that this is a very important weekend early in the season for the standings in the West [Division]. We’re going to be focused, give our best efforts and take it one game at a time.”

In a monumental night for the Seals organization, the team prevailed in its home-opener with a 12-10 win over the Rochester Knighthawks.

“We had a strong, 60-minute effort against Rochester,” continued Merrill. “We know we need to build on that effort in preparation for two games this weekend.”

Assistant captain Dan Dawson netted a hat trick in his first game in front of the home crowd. The veteran righty is eager for Friday’s affair.

“We’re extremely excited to get back out there in front of the fans in San Diego,” said forward Dan Dawson. “After being on the road, it was awesome being able to show the people of S.D. what lacrosse is all about. We’re looking for a little revenge against a strong Calgary team on Friday, and we understand the importance of both games this weekend.”

The San Diego Seals enter the weekend with a 2-2 record, and currently sit in third place in the West Division. Calgary is in second place in the West with a 3-2 record, and Vancouver is in fourth with a mark of 1-4. The Seals lost to the Roughnecks, 9-5, in a low-scoring game in Alberta on December 28.
