Zack Greer ends retirement, will play for the Seals in the 2019-20 season

The San Diego Seals announced today that forward Zack Greer has officially ended his retirement and will play for the Seals in the 2019-20 campaign. Greer was acquired in September in a draft-day trade with the Colorado Mammoth.

“Zack had to take last year off from playing lacrosse due to personal commitments, and we’re thrilled he’s able to fully commit,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “He will be a key member of our leadership core going forward. He’s an all-in type of guy and excited about the opportunity play in front of our fans in San Diego. He’s going to be a difference-maker on our left side and we’re looking forward to seeing him at training camp.”

Greer, 33, is the younger brother of defensive coordinator Bill Greer and brings nine years of veteran leadership to the Seals. In 133 career games played, the lefty registered 239 goals and 440 points.

An assistant captain for Colorado in 2017, the 6-1, 190-pound forward played two seasons with the Mammoth, averaging five points per game. Before joining Colorado, he spent five years in the Rush organization. In his final two seasons with the Rush, both NLL Championship-winning seasons, Greer notched record-seasons scoring the second and third most regular-season goals in franchise history (2015-2016).

The Whitby, Ontario native was drafted third overall in the 2009 Entry Draft. Greer played college lacrosse at Duke University and was named a two-time All-American (2007, 2008). He was a nominee for the national player and national attackman of the year (2008), and was the nation’s leader in goals scored with 141 in 48 career games, good for a per-game average of 2.94 goals.

The Seals return for their second season in December at Pechanga Arena San Diego. Place your season ticket membership deposit today at SealsLax.com.
