(SAN DIEGO – August 1, 2018) – In the first hour of free agency, the San Diego Seals have already agreed to terms with 11 free agents including Garrett Billings, the NLL all-time leader in assists-per-game average.
Billings, 32, has registered 180 goals, 403 assists and 437 loose balls in 101 career games. The eight-year NLL veteran finished second in league scoring in both 2012 and 2013, and third in 2014. He was also a top MVP candidate in all of those seasons.
“He’s going to bring a great veteran presence to our team,” said general manager and head coach Patrick Merrill. “I believe he is in the prime of his career and will be a great fit for the Seals. We’re expecting him to do great things for our offense. He’s a proven point producer and a proven winner.”
The 6-0, 195-pound righty was named to the All-Pro First Team three times and the 2010 All-Rookie team. He also won an NLL championship with the Toronto Rock in his rookie campaign. He averages 5.7 points per game and posted 100-plus points in three straight seasons. Billings saw limited action during 2017 and missed the 2018 season due to injury.
The San Diego Seals have signed ten additional free agents including Drew Belgrave, Joe Walters and Team USA gold medalist Marcus Holman.
“Our scouts have worked tirelessly to identify guys that are ready to play in the NLL and who are ready to compete,” said Merrill. “I think we have a really good mix and I’m excited about the group of guys who have signed today. We have players who are ready to make the Seals competitive and who are quality on and off the floor.”
