Wes Berg’s clutch goal with 1:20 left in the fourth quarter snapped a 17:23 scoreless drought and lifted the Seals to a 13-11 win over the Vancouver Warriors on Friday night at Pechanga Arena. Berg, the Seals captain, led the team with four goals on the night.
The Seals took an 8-7 lead into halftime after a strong second quarter, with five different players finding the net. Zach Currier opened the period with a slick backhanded goal, followed by Dylan Watson’s rebound finish. Ben McIntosh, Ryan Benesch, and Berg helped power a three-goal run to close the half.
San Diego dominated the third quarter, outscoring Vancouver 3-0. Tre Leclaire’s scoop-and-score, followed by power-play goals from Hellyer and Benesch, pushed the Seals ahead 11-7.
Vancouver responded with four unanswered goals in the fourth to tie it 11-11. But with the game on the line, goaltender Chris Origlieri locked down, holding Vancouver scoreless for the final 9:52. Berg’s game-winner came in clutch fashion before Hellyer sealed the deal with a driving goal with 37 seconds left.
