Knighthawks Edge Seals in 14-13 Thriller
Ryan Smith’s fifth goal of the night, scored with just 11 seconds remaining, lifted the Rochester Knighthawks to a dramatic 14-13 victory over the San Diego Seals on Saturday at Blue Cross Arena.
Trailing 12-6 midway through the third, the Seals mounted a furious comeback, scoring seven of the next eight goals to tie the game at 13-13 with 6:06 left in the fourth. However, Rochester’s defense held firm, and Smith’s late heroics sealed the win.
Rochester led 5-3 after one, with Zach Currier opening the scoring for San Diego on a highlight-reel putback. The Knighthawks extended their lead to 9-5 by halftime, fueled by two goals each from Connor Fields and Smith.
The third quarter saw a surge from both teams, with the Seals closing the gap thanks to Ryan Benesch and Jake Govett. Heading into the fourth down 13-11, San Diego continued to push, with Govett’s shorthanded goal tying the game. But Rochester’s defense stood strong, and Smith’s clutch goal proved to be the difference.
With the loss, the Seals fall to 8-7, while the Knighthawks improve to 9-7. San Diego looks to bounce back next Saturday, April 5, against the Halifax Thunderbirds at 3 p.m. PT.
